New Episodes of Dinosaur Train begin 2/6-10!

My son and I have loved Dinosaur Train for a long time now and were excited to learn new episodes will be coming out February 6th, 2012. We were able to get a sneak peak copy of these new episodes, and I will tell you, they will not disappoint. My son loved them, and sat completely engaged in the DVD until it was finished, and as most mothers of 4 years olds will tell you- that is a rare moment! HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (January 19, 2012) - The PBS KIDS® EMMY®-nominated animated children’s series DINOSAUR TRAIN®, will premiere new episodes February 6-10, 2012 on PBS KIDS to educate preschoolers all about how earthquakes, forest fires, droughts and hurricanes affect animals and their habitats.

DINOSAUR TRAIN is an educational and inspiring preschool series that has been a prominent source of fostering early childhood development while entertaining millions of 3-6-year-olds since it premiered in 2009. The series’ mission is to introduce kids to paleontology and the natural sciences. The new “Weather Week” episodes have a special focus on extreme weather conditions and how these forces of nature affect different environments and the animals that live there. Viewers will also learn what action to take in the case of extreme weather and how to stay safe during a variety of different weather events.
Throughout the week of February 6-10, 2012 new storylines will follow Buddy and his Pteranodon family as they experience extreme weather conditions first hand (check local listings).

“The Earthquake / Nursery Car”
Premieres Monday, February 6 and repeats on Friday February 10
The kids experience their first earthquake when Mom takes them on a playdate to see Tank Triceratops in the desert! Mom and the Conductor have prepared the kids with excellent advice about what to do in an earthquake so everyone does fine. Then the Dinosaur Train adds a Nursery Car to safely carry dinosaur eggs while their expectant moms and dads wait for them to hatch.

“The Forest Fire / The Lost Bird”

Premieres Tuesday, February 7
A forest fire comes to woods not far from the family nest. The Conductor takes them to visit a nearby area where a fire has already been, to see how new life is growing back. The Buddy
and Tiny ride the Dinosaur Train for a playdate with their old friend Petey Peteinosaurus, and learn that the train has added a new Aviary Car, for their various flying passengers.
“Dry Times at Pteranodon Terrace / Big Misty Sea Fishing Contest”

Premieres Wednesday, February 8
When the weather is extremely dry for several weeks, all the water holes at Pteranodon Terrace dry up! The family decides to camp out at the Big Pond, where they will wait out the drought and return home when it rains again. Then, Dad competes in the big annual Fishing Contest where he tries to catch Chester, the biggest fish in the Big Misty Sea.
“Hurricane at Pteranodon Terrance / Rafting the Cretaceous

Premieres Thursday, February 9
When a huge rainstorm over Pteranodon Terrace turns into a hurricane the family seeks shelter with their neighbors in a warm, dry cave. In the morning, the storm has passed, but everyone must pitch in to rebuild their nests. When they meet two new friends who crossed the sea in the storm, they help them get back home on the Dinosaur Train.

The Jim Henson Company is also encouraging DINOSAUR TRAIN fans to join the “Nature Trackers Club.” Kids and their parents can visit PBS.org to download “Nature Trackers” activities and receive a free DINOSAUR TRAIN surprise to celebrate their achievement.

Butt Bench- silly name but fantastic product. This nifty little bench that fits across most standard tubs is the best thing since sliced bread to many women! It is perfect for sitting to shave your legs, for having a place to prop your legs while shaving, to hold your bottles in the shower if you are lacking space, or it is even a great idea for elderly people who need to rest while showering! We received our butt bench, and just love it! The quality of this is wonderful, and it is actually so pretty. It really adds a nice touch to our bathtub. It is pretty sturdy- being able to lie across the bathtub, but also have suction cups for more support. We have been using ours just to hold bottles and such (and for my little man to use as a place to play with his toys in the bath) but I have seen other fans who use it as an inviting way to lay towels and soaps for guests! Such a nifty way to use this great little invention if you ask me.

Awesome Coloring Book & CD

I love finding fun ways to make my kids aware of the environment and the animals in it. That's why I was so excited when I was sent the The Banana Plant 'Gulf Alive Kids Music CD and Coloring Book Set.

This is such a fun way to get your kids talking about the environment and introduce some fun animals that they may not know of yet! I don't think my boys had ever heard much about Walruses until they heard 'No Walruses in the Gulf'. And its so nice to hear about plankton and not be talking about SpongeBob!

The style of music on the CD is so much fun for kids! It makes them want to get up and start moving to the beat! And the coloring book was so much fun for my little ones! They both love to color and animals are their favorite things to color!

Abrams Books offers the best in children's books!

I am an avid reader, and I am raising my son to be as well. He is also fascinated with learning new things, new words…anything. At this age, they are a sponge and we should expose them to lots of things to stimulate their mind. I recently received a few great book from Abrams Books, a store I love.

The first is Hippopposites which is such a fun, opposite’s book. It has some of the normal opposites you see in other books, but also some different ones. It definitely gives a new view on opposites…..from full to empty, soft to rough, light to heavy. My son and I enjoy going over this together!

The next book is World of Wonders. This is such a cool book and I learned facts from this book. It contains all kinds of useful (and maybe not so useful knowledge) like the worlds heaviest seed, the fastest fish, and which animal’s heart beats the fastest. It also opens up doors to talk to your children about major earth events like Hurricane Katrina. Though I feel like this book is a little more advanced for my four year old, we read a few facts every night, and he seems really interested. I love it because it is such a way to talk about things we never would have before, and I even told him of my life’s dream to see the Aurora Borealis.

I have reviewed a little Pim book before, but I continue to be impressed. It is not so much about the material covered in the books- this book is Little Pim Animals, which my son obviously know- but I am impressed by the language. It tells you animal names in both French and Spanish, and it is never too early to start your child on a foreign language!

So, as you can see, Abrams Books offers a wide variety of excellent reads. I have really enjoyed everything we have received from them, and know you will enjoy taking a look around their store. There is truly something for everyone!!

As I have mentioned, we just bought a new place and that means it is time to decorate! Since moving, my little man has been slowly easing back into our bed (I guess the move made him nervous) so we knew we had to do something that makes his bedroom more fun. I have worked with Stephanie from mywonderfulwalls.com in the past on a canvas print, which we simply adore. It was great to decorate our apartment without having to repaint…but now we were looking for something more permanent, so I contacted Mywonderfulwalls.com again. They agreed to send me the transportation stencil kit that matches his train canvas perfectly. Part of me looked forward to this project but the other part of me knew it would be hard work and I dreaded it! Surprise, surprise…this wonderful room only took 1 ½ days. The first day hubby and I painted the sky and ground and let that dry overnight. In my opinion that was the hardest part of the entire room.

Then on the morning of day two, we placed the stencils where we wanted them. These are self sticky so they were pretty easy to place once the excess plastic was cut off. The kit we received came with the paints for the stencils and paintbrushes and even a guide of which colors to use.

Once the Wall Stencils were hung, we began painting. This was really FUN and my favorite part. I loved that it allowed room for some creativity, and made his room fabulous! As a friend told me, “coolest room ever!” Now little man has a super cool room to show off to his friends and I hope he will be more excited to sleep in it by himself. Here is to hoping, he does not grow out of the planes, trains and automobile phase anytime soon! (also notice the 3pc train canvas we received from My Wonderful Walls this summer. We still love it!)

I had never heard of a brag board until recently, and when I discovered them, I thought they were the most clever design. I was tired of my little man’s art work cluttering my fridge but I never had the heart to take the art down. We recently moved to a much bigger place, and now my son has an entire living room dedicated as his “play room.” This is such a fun room and I knew a brag board would be the perfect addiction to show off his work with pride.

Erin from Words2liveby agreed to send me her fabulous creation made with my custom color (green to make little man happy) and it says, “look what I did” this is fabulous because we can even use this for report cards and other items when he gets past the preschool years. We simply love the brag board, and have received so many compliments from people. Most people think it is a fabulous idea, and such a nifty way to compliment a room. Little man is constantly adding things to his collection on the board.

I have always had difficulty falling asleep and have found over the counter sleep aides to be simply ineffective. I was really amazed at how great the quality of the cartoon is now! It almost has a 3d affect and that brings the ability to draw you into the show more. This wonderful movie includes 6 Garfield episodes, with my favorite being Down on the Farm. To me this episode was especially funny and had me giggling watching the cows watch television and Garfield ordering pizza. My son has been a fan of Garfield for some time, and there is something delightful for me, knowing he is enjoying the same movies that I loved as a child. My son has watched this so many times that he is now quoting lines from it and cracking up each and every time we watch it! It’s a great family DVD that will have everyone laughing. Pick up a copy when it goes on sale, because I am sure you will love it!

My son and I were excited to have a movie day when A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventure came in. Since we live in Florida, I find it especially important that my little man know about the ocean and all of its magnificent creatures, and to respect them as well! A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventure is both education and entertaining. My little man was able to learn about an actual sea turtles lifespan, while also getting laughs and enjoyment at the movie. This movie was perfectly appropriate for a four year old, but also great for me! As we snuggled up and watched it, I knew this would quickly become one of my son’s favorites, and I was not wrong. He has since watched it over and over again! This movies does make you think about how we can do more to protect our environment and wildlife, and this is something I would like my son to be aware of. I would highly recommend this to any little future marine biologist- or to any child that loves animals! This movie definitely receives and A in my book!

Lemon Drop Backdrops & Floors

I am a bit of a picture nut. I take so many pictures of my kids. My sweet husband bought me a Canon DSLR camera a few years ago. And it has fueled my obsession. I have looked online for good quality backdrops and I just discovered faux floors. I seriously DROOLED over some of the ones I ran across on Lemon Drop Backdrops & Floor Drops. I spent days of just looking through them several times. I honestly think the floor can make a picture. I love the faux wooden floors. But the backdrops on this site are really great too. I actually used to use cloth backdrops and I got a little tired of steaming the wrinkles out and when I discovered the vinyl drops I never looked back! I was able to get a picture of my bestie's little girl who had just turned 2! She was not feeling pictures on this day but she is such a pretty little princess. Every nurse knows a good pen is important to do their job! I recently contacted Zebra pens for a review and received the pack of Z-Grip Gel pens. These pens write really well (and I have always loved to look of gel ink) and do not seem to run through the ink quite as quickly as other gel pens I have used in the past. Holiday baking is over, and I got to try out my fantastic package from If You Care! I was lucky enough to be sent unbleached parchment baking paper, recycled aluminum foil, sponge clothes, baking cups and sandwich bags + an If You Care t-shirt.
The aluminum foil was most used over the holidays: we wrapped our turkey in it to bake and covered numerous dishes with it. This aluminum foil uses 95% less energy to produce and the aluminum foil and cardboard packaging can both be recycled…and it works surprisingly well. It does seem a little thinner than some more traditional aluminum foil but holds up very well and did its job perfectly for our Christmas baking! It made me feel good to be using something that is so good for the environment!

The paper snack and sandwich bags were perfect to send goodies home with family. It has a natural barrier that prevents fats and greases from penetrating the surfaces. This is so much better than the traditional sandwich bag because it is not plastic and does not stick around in a landfill forever. I am thrilled to have plenty left over to send my son sandwiches to school.

I did not know that some parchment papers contain Quilon which contains heavy metals that could potentially be harmful to us. After learning this, I am stoked to use the If You Care Parchment paper. It is unbleached and uses natural silicone instead of Quilon, which sounds much safer. It works very well too, and leaves nothing to be desired out of this great product. Because it is unbleached that means that no chlorine is dumped into our rivers and streams.

The sponge clothes are wonderful! These can be used just like paper towels except they can be reused and washed and used over and over again. Just one cloth can be used to replace up to 15 rolls of paper towels. They are very durable and absorbent. Not only is this good for the environment, it saves YOU money!!

Moon Dough Push N’ Pop Breakfast Review

Two of my little man’s favorite things are getting messy and doing arts and crafts. We were recently lucky enough to receive a box of Moon Dough Push N’ Pop Breakfast kit and this combines both of his loves. Moon Dough has been reformulated and now it is more moldable and a little less messy, though it is still best to let your child play with this in a place that allows easy cleanup!

Little man loved this set and spent a few hours this morning making food and feeding his stuffed animals. He has always been a big fan of Moon Dough and The Push N’ Pop Breakfast is not different. The texture of Moon Dough is so cool, and the best part about it is, that it never dries out like other dough’s we have played with. I asked my four year old son his opinion of the kit and he said, “good” and his favorite part was making, “towers of sandwiches for his stuffed animals!”

The Moon Dough Push N’ Pop Breakfast was definitely a highlight of my sons day. It is very fun and entertaining, but still a bit messy. The molds include pancakes, waffles, toast and even pats of butter and even strawberries to add as garnishments. It comes with a super cool paper placemat where a child can add food to the plate. Very cool idea for the child with an active imagination like me son! This would make a great last minute gift for your little “messy artist.”

Ok let's be honest...who doesn't love new socks? I mean it sounds a little silly but I love love getting new socks! There isn't anything I hate more than old worn out holy socks. I recently found an awesome website that offers socks for all of your family. I love being able to shop on one site for everyone in my house! Socks4Life.com has tons of styles.

We are an extremely crafty family. I admit that my favorite pastime might have rubbed off on my little man a bit! We are always looking for fun projects to work on together, and often promise to get stuff to make something we saw in a magazine. Often times, by the time we get to the store we forget exactly what we came for…or I am unwilling to buy a million supplies to do one little crafting project. That is where a fantastic company like Crafty Parent steps in. This company has a really amazing idea going. You pay a monthly fee and you receive a box with enough crafts and ALL the supplies needed for the project, 4 family friendly recipes, four activities that you can do in your home with you own stuff and occasionally a silly song or kids sized utensil.

I was not exactly sure what to expect when our package arrived so I anxiously dug in. Again, crafting is MY thing, and one of my bigger joys in life..so I was excited! We opened it up and SURPRISE it was loaded with goodies….and my favorite and my little man’s favorite was the kit to decorate a jar with tissue paper and glue mixed with water. We had a ton of fun doing this, the finished product was MUCH cuter than I ever expected. Little man instantly dubbed this his dessert jar (he is allowed one piece of candy a night after dinner) and put it to work on the kitchen counter.

We also got other cool things like a decorate it yourself apron-which I might add included the markers, and a cool crystal ball kit-plus other awesome stuff.
Honestly, if you spend money on crafting supplies already this is the way to go. It’s like Christmas for your child (and yourself if you are like me) every single month! How exciting to receive this box and open it up to see what is inside. Money is a bit tight for us right now, as we just purchased a new home, but I am telling you- when things straighten out, I would LOVE to sign my little man up for Crafty Parent!

One of my sons favorite things to do is play in his sandbox with toy trucks and diggers. Who doesn't love to express yourself? And especially kids? My little boy loves to express himself in the clothes he chooses to wear. He is very picky about what he wears everyday! Sometimes he's in the mood for his alligator adventure shirt, while others he wants to wear a shirt with a big truck on it to show his love for big rigs! I love that he has found an outlet for self expression. I have found a product that has SELF EXPRESSION written all over it! Hand Vibes are so neat!

Now, I had never ever heard of these little things and was a little confused at first. But these little rings are so cute! I actually think they are for an older age than my 4year old. Being as he can't read and has no clue what they really mean. But he loves them! He has wore these like crazy! He loves to stack them too! They feature 25 different styles in a wide variety of colors! They also feature the texting slang. My little boy was baffled by the ROTFL. He was like 'WHAT does that mean?' My sons favorite thing to do is arts and crafts, or “arts and craps” as he calls it! We are always coloring or doing some other kind of craft. Recently, Myblogspark contacted me and asked me to review a Crayola prize pack and I jumped at the chance. It is official! We are moving!! As many of my followers know, we lost our home to toxic drywall a couple years ago and we have been renting..but recently an opportunity came for us to be homeowners again. This home is not what we lost, but it has a lot of space and is really affordable. Yay us, right? Well….of course, because we are getting a new home I have been looking for ways to decorate it. They offer bath rugs, welcome mats, children’s rugs and even breathtaking area rugs.

I think this Welcome Mat is the perfect way to add a nice entrance into our new place. It is very sturdy and made of recycled rubber. It is considered a holiday mat, but I think it is perfect for any time of year. Even though we have not moved yet, I have added it to our entrance at our current place and have already received numerous compliments. I love this high-quality mat and know that it will be our Welcoming mat for years to come. Doesn’t it just make my front door seem more welcoming?

Nothing makes my little man happier than trains. I would say a close second to him is construction type vehicles so when I heard about the Cat Iron Diesel Train Set, I was stoked. It combines his two favorite things. How could something like that NOT be a hit? Of course, I was right and he loved it!

This Cat Iron Diesel Train Set offers over 7 feet of track and makes a perfect oval for my little man to create. I will say the tracks of this set are slightly more difficult to put together than some other train tracks we have encountered, but as a true toy train lover, that did not hold my son back. He had this set together in no time and all, and had drug out other trains and toys to combine with this. He loves the additional smaller diggers that are being hauled by the train and finds them fun in and of itself.

We just got this in the mail yesterday and already my son has spent hours playing with this. He simply loves it, and it is refreshing to me to see him play with something other than the train brands we all know..not that they are not cool, but sometimes a Mom needs a break. I only wish my little man would allow this battery operated train to go by itself, but he has his hands on it all the time, and will not allow it to run on its on power…silly kid!

Who stole the flowers in God's Secret Garden? Find out in this delightful tale, which uses animals, nature, and a visit from an angel to teach the importance of prayer and the value of trusting God.

This is a book that my four year old and I enjoyed very much. I think the message is still somewhat hidden to him, but I love that it teaches children to turn to God and pray and to never let a “bad guy” steal your peace. Benny’s Angel is the perfect length book for a preschooler, and the illustration is beautiful. The characters are very lovable, and it is now a “go to” book for my son and I. It is the perfect stocking stuffer for the Christ-centered home.

About the author:
Laura Allen Nonemaker’s desire to write took root as a child in Bermuda. Since then, Laura has written in a variety of genres and her work has appeared in Essence Treasury: Celebrating the Season, Alive! and Kentucky Monthly Magazine.

I was first introduced to Gooseberry Patch cookbooks about 16 years ago. I received one as a gift and was instantly hooked. These cookbooks are truly unique. The first cookbook was produced in 1992, by 2 moms with small children looking for a way to be able to do what they loved and stay home with their children. (Who can't relate to that?!) Now they have produced over 240 cookbooks! When I got the opportunity to do a review for them I jumped at the chance! With Christmas quickly approaching, I chose to do a review of the Quick & Easy Christmas cookbook.

This is so much more than just a cookbook! At the bottom of every page there is a little story or helpful hint that I truly enjoy reading. I love that the recipes come from individuals such as you and me. Each recipe also has a little tidbit from the person that submitted it about the recipe or where it came from. Those tidbits are what inspire me to choose the recipes most of the time. I agonized over which recipe I would choose to review. After carefully considering each one, I chose to make the Eggnog Cake. Nothing says Christmas like Eggnog! Plus, I love that this recipe has very few ingredients and is what I call a "dump" cake. You literally dump it all in a bowl, mix it up and bake. Very simple!

Eggnog Cake:

18-1/4 oz. pkg. Yellow Cake Mix with pudding

3 Eggs, beaten

1/3 C. Oil

1 t. Nutmeg

1 1/3 C. Eggnog

Eggnog Glaze:

2 C. Powdered Sugar

2 T. Margarine, softened

1 t. Vanilla Extract

3 to 4 T. Eggnog

In a large bowl, blend together all ingredients until smooth.

Pour into a Bundt pan that has been sprayed with non-stick vegetable spray.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes, until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack 10 minutes.

Transfer to a nice plate. Drizzle Eggnog Glaze over cake. Makes 12 servings.

This cake tastes amazing!! It is definitely going to be the treat I make for all of my neighbors this year. It was so quick, easy and cost effective as well. Most of the recipes in this cookbook are done in 30 minutes or less. AND, it has a crockpot section to boot! I highly recommend adding this, and all of the other Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks to your kitchen library. You won't be disappointed!

I have not announced this here yet, because we are waiting on the inspection to come back..but if all goes well, we will soon be home owners again. I think I have bragged in the past about my not so awesome decorating skills! I love decor that is effortless and not permanent. I love fun decorations for my kids! That's why I love Lot 26 Studio.

Lot 26 has some awesome decor. I love the wall decals. They also have sports art.

I received 2 Wall Decals to try out. I LOVE them! Me and my son put up the ones in the playroom. He loves them! I let him help and he had so much fun.

I loved how easy these were to put up. I have used some before that were a little difficult to get to stick. But these were SO easy! My 4 year old had NO problem whatsoever peeling these off and sticking them where he wanted them. This was such a fun project for us.

I also received one that is great for the holidays. I had a big empty space above our fireplace and needed something to fill it in.

This looks so great in our living room. It has added so much to our Christmas decorations. My kids love the 'tree on the wall'. This decal was a bit more tricky to put up. It took a little more time to make sure I didn't tear any pieces. But you can adjust it and it doesn't lose the sticky.

Christmas is a time for family, it is a time for love, and in my opinion it is a time for sharing. Christmas seems to be a time that people become more generous and are willing to help others. This year, you can give a fantastic gift to a loved one while still helping others. You see, I stumbled on this fantastic company called Project Iris. This company called Project Iris has phenomenal items and shirts available to purchase. Totally beautiful shirts, I might add. I was lucky enough to receive the India Blue Feather Burnout, and I love it. The peacock has long been one of my favorite birds, and this shirt speaks of the flamboyant beauty of a peacock. My son is four, and at this age his imagination is working overtime. He is constantly busy with little scenarios going in his mind. I have found that at this age, the best toys for him are the ones who allow his creativity flow.

Ah, Holiday Season is upon us! I just got home from Black Friday shopping! So now its my turn to bring some deals to you! I just love finding unique items. Keeping my skin in great shape is important to me. When I see a woman who looks fabulous in her 50s or 60s and I ask what her secret is…she almost always answers a great skin care routine. Because of this, I became almost religious about proper skin care in my very early 20s. Recently, I was introduced to a product that I now love: Vivoderm.

Vivoderm sent me a whole bag of their samples, and I really liked what I tried.
I used the facial cleanser, toner, the anti-aging facial mask, intense moisturizer, and the anti-aging eye cream all in one night. The cleanser left my face soft and supple while the mask worked wonders. Of all the Vivoderm products I tried I loved the mask the best. It comes in a dry formula and you just add water and apply. It dries into a very firming mask that leaves my skin so fresh and bright. The toner soothes my skin quite well and the moisturizer is just that: intense. I have to say this product is a little thicker than I prefer for regular use, but during the harsh winter months- or for someone with really dry skin this product would be perfect. The eye cream is very thick and perfect to prevent the fine lines and wrinkles we all dread. Later, I tried the anti-acne facial mask which I love just as much as the other mask. The formula is perfect for me, and I love that you do not have to worry about these masks drying out because it is a dry formula.

Later I tried the Chamomile Body Butter which is heavenly and relaxing. It is just the perfect combination of thickness and moisture and did not leave my body at all sticky. It is very lightly but beautifully scented, and is perfect to apply just before bed to fall into a relaxing sleep. I also received the rich cocoa butter foot cream, and this thick formula is perfect for my cracking, aching feet during the winter.

It is Christmas time and everyone is all about the rage and the hottest new toy for 2011. That is great and all, but I love toys that allow my child’s imagination to run wild- and I found a terrific store, Goblin Kids, which offer many products that do just that. Goblin Kids offers a huge variety of European wooden toys and educational infant toys , many of which allow the imagination to soar. One of the primary brands at Goblin Kids is Haba toys, which is a brand that most Moms have come to know and trust.

My son received the Bambini Cars from Haba, which I was very thankful for. I have often wondered if my four year old might be slightly delayed with his fine motors skills. He can write his name, though not neatly, and he often struggles to do some of the simplest tasks like zipping up his jacket. The Bambini Cars is awesome for this. It is really a very simply concept…the child just threads the cars in different orders and combinations, while having fun practicing the motor skills. At first I did not know if my son would love this, it seemed almost too simple for enjoyment. This is not the case at all! He actually loves this toy and has spent a large amount of time threading and “making patterns.” I am so glad that he is having fun practicing a skill I had concern about.

We also received Catch Me from Haba which is this cute little game in one very small tin. This is actually the perfect stocking stuffer in my opinion. Much better than the cheap little gimmicky toys you might find in the big name stores. This fun little game is so simple in concept, but my son is THRILLED with it. As we played this game, we received more laughs than with most games we play. Of course, he loves to be the cat and catch all the mice…and watch us scramble.

It is pretty obvious that I love beauty products. I have been reviewing them for years on this blog, so yall all know I do! Recently I agreed to do a review for a fabulous little etsy shop called Simply Rustic. I personally think the name is so fitting for this shop because the scrubs come in these cute little mason jars, and the scrubs all look like something my mom would make…something that takes you back in time….something well, Simply Rustic!

So, initially I was impressed with the packaging, but later I was impressed with the products. The body scrub does the body good, and leaves my skin silky smooth but also well hydrated. You honestly do not need any lotion or body butter after using this because the vitamin E that is in it moisturizes very well. I love that this scrub is 100% natural so you do not have to worry about weird chemicals or preservatives coming in contact with your skin.

The body butter is equally as wonderful..this is a very rich butter though, so be prepared that a little bit goes a long way. The best way I have found to use it is after a shower, I rub a little between my hands to melt and then spread it on. This leaves my skin so soft and moisturized and I have combatted the winter dry skin with this.

Lastly, I received the lip care kit from Simply Rustic. I will say I did find the lip scrub to be slightly rough, though it had a nice flavor and exfoliated my lips nicely. I did just get a newsletter from Simply Rustic stating that they have reformulated the lips scrubs with a finer sugar, so I am sure that issues is resolved. I love the balm….it is wonderful for healing chapped lips during the harsh winter months. It would be an excellent choice for those of you who live in harsher climates than Florida. (Sorry, I just had to rub that in.)

If you have followed my blog for any time at all, you are well aware that I am a crafter. I use this broad term because I just like to craft, and will try my hand at just about anything! Recently I have really gotten into creating unique pieces of home décor. My most current project was taking a hurricane glass jar, filling it with scented pine cones and artificial berries and flowers. Such a cute, wintery touch!

I am always looking for crafting stores other than the bigger names that I visit and pay a fortune at. Another craft little man and I have been looking into doing is making granulated wax candles. Playmobil Robbers Amphibious Vehicle Play Set is a fun toy for the busy kid!

Like most four year old boys, my son loves anything on wheels. He also loves anything that he can use his imagination with. It cracks me up to hear him with his little imagination in overdrive, talking to his self. Recently, I was contacted to review the Playmobil Robbers Amphibious Vehicle Play Set, and I jumped at the chance. It sounded just like something my little guy would be excited to get his hands on. I was not let down on that assumption at all.

My son loves this toy. It has all the things that boys love, wheels…a vehicle that can go on land and water (and it even FLOATS!) Needless to say, as soon as I told him that, he had it in the bathtub that night! He actually did need more bath toys, so this makes me very happy. I cannot tell you what scenerios he had going on in there because he mumbles, but I can tell you this toy keeps him very busy and muttering to himself..all with the occasional sound effect!

If you are looking for a fun toy to keep your child entertained this year, I highly recommend the Playmobil Robbers Amphibious Vehicle Play Set. It comes with an action figure, cases, crow bar, toy gun, European style money and the amphibious vehicle. There is plenty to keep any child entertained for a long while! I think it would make a great stocking stuffer for the avid reader in your life.

Heroes and Villains was not what I expected at all. I honestly expected a lot of commentary, pictures, and something slightly more kid friendly than this. This book is basically just bible verses and a tiny bit of commentary at the end of the chapter. Really there are no pictures or anything that would hold my four year olds attention for long. I do think this book would be great for an adult or an older child, but definitely not for small children. I enjoyed reading the verses and being refreshed on it…but will not be offering this read to my son.

I received this new book by Tracie Peterson from Bethany House as a review copy. House of Secrets kept the pages turning for me. It seemed like every chapter had a new plot twist that kept me on edge. House of Secrets deals with a topic that many people do not like to talk about or face, especially in a fiction book…Mental Illness. This is obviously a topic we need to face, because there are few families in the United States who have not been touched by mental illness. House of Secrets is also particularly touching because it is in the first person of a nonbeliever, and you slowly follow her in her quest for answers…and her quest for faith. A great read for the Christian Fiction lover!

Digital Scrabooking fun with My Memories..contest!

As a nurse who spends a lot of time on her feet at work, I need compression undergarments to keep my legs from aching all of the time. I have tried numerous brands and styles only to discover I like very few. Many of the socks and/or knee highs fall down or leave really uncomfortable marks where they dig into my calfs. I have always been a bit hesitant to try the compression tights because I assumed they would keep my too warm on a busy day. Vigilante by Robin Parrish

I received the book, Vigilante by Robin Parrish to review and quickly found it to be a page turner. I have often said that I have a guy’s taste in books and movies, and I believe this to be true of my love of Vigilante. This book follows one Christian soldier as he attempts to be a super hero. This is a very fast moving book that keeps you turning the page and enjoying the read. There are a couple of violent scenes, which only added more character to the book for me. The ending leaves you very happy, and not leaving something to be desired.

I have read a couple of Robin Parrish books and I have to say this is my favorite so far. It is a very colorful book that kept me in suspense much of the time. I definitely recommend it to the Christian Fiction lover!

The holidays are a time that we come together and give thanks, and celebrate but it is also a time of mess in my family. Some big time messes, because we have a big family. Could Food Dyes be Affecting Your Kids?

Okay, I will be the first to admit that I normally brush off these rumored things that has such an impact on kids. I try not to make excuses for my kids' bad behavior. I am all about them being held accountable for their actions. With that being said, I have a very hyper little boy. And sometimes I have noticed that he cannot control himself. Its almost like he's vibrating. His daycare has already brought up having him tested for add/adhd. I refused, he's only 4. But still I have been aware that he is a lot more active/hyper/irritable than most 4year olds for a long time. Sometimes he will be the sweetest best behaved child...others he can turn into a monster in the blink of an eye.

I had heard some of the talk about red 40 dye and how they can effect kids. I never gave it much thought. Until my son developed a love for Grape Soda. This kid was obsessed. The week he fell in love with this sugary drink he had been sick and I was giving him grape advil too. I learned a trick...mix the grape advil in the grape soda and he didn't even know it was in there. Worked like a charm. When he got hyper and wanted to play we were just glad to see him 'feeling better' and back to his old self. This child had ran a high fever that week and was piteful. Then after he got better and off the advil, he kept asking for some grape soda. I would give him a cup and a straw. I started noticing that within 10-15min of drinking it he was a wild uncontrollable child. It was an instant change. My hubby put his foot down and said NO MORE GRAPE SODA....ever. Then I got to noticing that it wasn't just the grape soda. I tested his beloved blueberry pop tarts. He normally would eat these before daycare while I was getting ready for work. By the time we left the house in the mornings the child was all wound up! So for 1 week I cut out the pop tarts in the mornings. I fixed him waffles and baked him muffins. He had no dyes before school. His teacher commented in the middle of the week how well he had been. He even got a sticker 2 days in a row. The child has only ever gotten a sticker one other time in the whole time he's been to this daycare. He was so proud of those stickers. At home in the evenings I cut out red 40 the best I could. I replaced his colorful snacks for some organic dye free snacks. It was like someone flipped a switch in my child. He was calm. He was pleasant to deal with. He was able to sit still, something I have told people was impossible. He was nicer to his little brother. Now, don't get me wrong...he has always been a sweet kid. But he's always been temperamental. He is very emotional. And sometimes the smallest things would send him over the edge. I would often think to myself 'This can't be normal.' But like a lot of moms I chalked it up to his age.

So after my week trial of limited to no red 40 I could tell a difference. His teacher could tell a difference. His grandparents said he was like a different child.

I am still in the process of testing this theory. I am reading up on all the dyes and possible side effects. I want my children to be able to to be the best they can be. What if what we are feeding our kids are keeping them from being able to do that? Sometimes I would ask Eli, WHY on earth did you do that?!?!?!?! His response one day startled me. He looked at me with those big blue eyes and said 'sometimes Mommy, my brain just goes crazy. I don't know why I did it.' Now he has heard me make the comment that my brain goes crazy once or twice. But in that moment I knew his behavior had been out of his control.

I encourage you moms to educate yourself on the stuff your kids are eating. I am guilty of having junk food junkie kids. I admit it. I don't encourage healthy eating like I should. But now seeing the effects these foods are having on my child...I am revamping our pantry. I am throwing out the foods with these dyes in them.

The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle

We recently received this adorable animated movie for review. At first I was not sure my son would love it since it just did not seems like his sort of movie. However, within 5 minutes he was glued to the television. The movie has a lot of action to keep his little mind interested, and plenty of animals which he loved. This animated movie by Phase 4 films features voices of Jane Seymour and Jason Alexander and was directed by Rinat Gazizov.

We are so happy to add The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle to our DVD collection. The animation is bright and colorful and the silly sounding voices keep my little man laughing. I would recommend this move to any parent of a preschool or early school aged child. It is appropriate and funny!

I was recently asked to review the new HBO DVD special called, A Child's Garden of Poetry. I agreed simply because I have been a longtime fan of poetry and would like to expose my son to more cultural things. Since this DVD includes authors like Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and William Shakespeare I knew I could not go wrong. Beautiful poems like, “The Road Not Taken” are read by famous individuals such as Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. In between the poems there are short interviews with children aged 6-8 that allows them to explain why they love poetry and to give a child’s perspective on poetry.
My son and I both really enjoyed this A Child's Garden of Poetry and found it very soothing. I personally love to have it playing while working on the computer, and my son loves the animation in the DVD. I think the use of children’s interviews during the interlude is crucial in keeping my sons interest. He loves to hear what other children like and think about subjects.

Educational toys are where it is at. I think it is a great thing when a child can learn, but have fun at the same time. We received the Math-a-Magician Activity Set from Learning Resources. This game is great for your little math whiz. There are several different ways to play this…and depending on the way it can teach math skills, early algebra, grouping, measuring and estimation. We have played it several ways, and my son enjoys each one..he also has a ton of fun just playing with the “cute little rabbits.” Since this game is perfect for children age 4-7, I know little man and I have many more years of fun with this game to come! It is very well made and durable. I also found it great that this game can be used for classrooms or larger groups of children.

It is no secret that I am in love with things that smell good! I especially love clean, fresh scents and fruity scents. I am currently in potty training limbo. Some days my 2 year old will gladly go to the potty and others he absolutely refuses. It is beyond frustrating at times. So on days he refuses to potty I put training pants on him so he will feel wet when he pees. I had a hard time finding training pants that would fit his chubby bum. I have tried a few brands and I was shocked at how small they were on him. Considering that training pants are made for toddlers...not infants. So I was a little more than annoyed when other brands didn't fit. Super Undies definitely was not one of those brands! I love these training pants for several reasons but the main reason is that they FIT. And my almost 35lb chunker has room to grow in the size Large! Its great!

These training pants are SO cute too. They look like undies, instead of a diaper, so my 2 year old thinks he's a big boy like his brother! Its so cute! There are two row of snaps on the back so you can adjust the fit for your little one. The soaker is a microfiber one that is quite large. It works like a pocket diaper, you stuff the soaker in the back. I love how easy these are to use. Super Undies also offers a pull on style and a Nighttime Style! I prepped this just like I do regular cloth diapers and I am able to wash them the same way. I hang the shell to dry just because I am used to doing that with all of my shells. I just can't say enough about the design of these training pants. I love them! My son wasn't really thrilled about me taking his picture but I did manage to snap a couple to show you the fit on him!

I have been using Super Undies for several weeks and they have held up fine in the wash and the microfiber insert is still absorbent and works well. I have absolutely no complaints about these. I love this brand!! So if your stuck in potty training limbo like I am check these out! A reusable training pant is so much more economical than a pack of pull ups.

Awesome preemie clothing

I recently became an Aunt to 2 beautiful baby boys! My nephews were born at 36weeks weighing in at just a little over 4lbs. Cooper was sent straight to NICU because of several medical issues he had. He stayed in NICU for 21 days. He was so tiny that the preemie clothing that was bought in stores was still way too big for his little body. I looked online about a week before they were born and found a website that specializes in preemie and even tinier clothing for NICU babies. I ordered Cooper and Jacob some outfits and really didn't think they would get much wear out of them. We had no idea they would be so tiny. Both the boys were able to wear the outfits and my Sister in law bragged on how well the clothes from Perfectly Preemie's worked for Cooper & Jacob. I had ordered a gown that was on backorder. I emailed the company and asked them if they could send me a different instead of waiting for the one I had originally ordered. The customer service was amazing! When I first heard of Striped Shirt, I thought it was such a cute and simple idea. I mean, think of the possibilities. Family pictures….vacations where you don’t want to lose each other (think Disney World) or just to be a cutesy family. What I was not prepared for with these shirts is the quality. I was quite honestly expecting a plain jane tee that might not hold up for very long. Instead I received this fantastic high quality shirt that I know will last a long time. The shirt has a lot of stretch to it- and is long enough for the more mature ladies.

These shirts were actually made to show your team spirit…something made that the ladies and children would look nice in (instead of those boxy-no shape team shirts you find everywhere) Since Striped Shirt does not yet offer my beloved Orange and Blue of the Florida Gators (but offers garnet and gold booo) My little guy and I opted for the white and green…simply because he loves green. I honestly do not even have any idea of which team we are representing in this, but it’s still cute. It is also great to wear at Christmastime in Florida (though Striped Shirt offers a red and green option as well). So, sports fan or not, Striped Shirt offers something for everyone!

One of my luxuries in life is pretty nails and toes. I generally get pedicures because it is so relaxing but I hate to splurge on a manicure when I can do it myself. Though, this saves money I often wish that I had super cute designs on my fingers, well I DID wish. That is until I discovered Jamberry! Can we say designalicious! There are so many fantastic designs to choose from! Okay, Okay…getting a little ahead of myself now. Let me tell you what Jamberry is. They are these fantastic nail shields that are super easy to apply and come in these fantastic patterns. Maybe you are not like me, and prefer solids to patterns…well, that’s okay, Jamberry offers that too! The solids are very pretty and they have nice colors to choose from!

I personally received the burgundy paisley which I think is a very subtle fall print. I wore these for a while, and got so many compliments. At my dentist office the hygienist actually got another girl to come and see them because she knew that she would love them! They were talked about all over the place that is for sure! Had I not opted for the burgundy paisley print, and it was a little closer to Christmas I would have definitely went for the Candy Cane. I just love it and it is so festive.

The Jamberry Shields were pretty easy to put on and in my case stayed on for about a week. When I decided to remove them that was super easy as well…just peel them off and tada…nekkie fingers. Easy Peasy.

Myachi Battle Paddle Project!

I had never heard of a Myachi before, but I had heard and seen hacky sacks in action in the past. The Myachi is much like a hacky sack but it is designed in a unique way that allows you to combine martial arts with the coordination of action sports. The design helps you have more control of the Myachi. Once you learn how to control the Myachi, there are so many cool things you can do! It also helps kids get great exercise while having a great time!

The Myachi is now becoming a worldwide phenomenon and children and adults alike are getting into the action of Myachi. We were lucky enough to receive an awesome green Myachi and also the battle paddle…which is another awesome way to play Myachi. It is also great for smaller kids because this ensures that you catch the Myachi every time…or almost! Though I think my son is a little too young to understand the Myachi and what it is all about, we really enjoyed playing with these and attempting some of the moves on the above video. We may have looked like a much klutzier version, it kept us moving and laughing! Great fun for all, but I would especially recommend this for boys 8 to 14. It just seems like something they would get a kick out of!

Myachi Battle Paddle Project:
Myachi is hoping to release the battle paddle to the public, however, it can only be funded if $2500 is reached by 11/2/11. For as little a $25 pledge you can receive you own battle paddle and other really cool stuff, though Myachi graciously accepts donations as small as $1!

I am an avid reader and can usually find something I like in any genre. I tend to stick to mostly sci-fi, mystery and Christian fiction books though. I also have found that if a book does not reel me in in the first three chapters, the rest of the book will be a waste of time and energy. Recently I was contacted and asked to review Shadow in Serenity which just so happens to be a great book! As mentioned above, within the first three chapters I was hooked and the characters almost became friends to me. The readers out there will know what I am talking about, that feeling when you finish a book and you just want more? Or even the feeling that a best friend just moved away and left you to grieve? Yes, Shadow in Serenity gave me that feeling.

Summary:
At the age of 17, Carny Sullivan broke free from the traveling carnival and scamming visitors with her dad, and moved to the safe town of Serenity, Texas. Now with a house of her own, a young son and a new life with people who love her, Carny is very protective of her new hometown.But Carny still knows a con artist when she sees one, and when charming, slick Logan Brisco arrives to dupe her town, she
is determined to reveal his greedy intentions to all. Carny may be Brisco's biggest match. Never having had a real family, Brisco becomes comfortable in the quaint, welcoming town, and the lure of the townspeople love may be just what he needs to change his criminal ways. Despite Carny's anger towards Brisco and her attempts to expose his scam to the townspeople, Carny learns the truth about the man behind that suave smile.It would take a miracle to change him, but she's seen that kind of redemption firsthand.

Prior to receiving this book, I have to tell you I had not heard of Terri Blackstock, however she will now be added to my preferred author list. Though Shadow in Serenity is not my typical type of book (because it does have a romance element to it) I really, really enjoyed it. It was a wholesome, fun read. Each character is fully developed and real. Totally like someone you might know from your home town. Being from a small town myself, I could relate to the “everyone knows everyone” feel of this book.

If you are looking for a great read, I highly recommend Shadow in Serenity by Terri Blackstock to you. It will keep you reading, laughing and gasping along the way as the story develops. I am also anxious to read more books from this author as I am sure they are just as fantastic as this one.

Original, Cool, Fun...Decor!

I have to be honest with you all and admit that I am pretty pitiful at decorating. I mean seriously it's almost Halloween and there is NOTHING out in my house that even remotely looks Halloweenish. I just don't get into it. But I love to find stuff that goes well in any room of my house. And that is hard to do. And I like stuff that is simple but a bit trendy at the same time. I found a product that is just that with a something extra threw in...FUN! Chalkboard China has to be the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I admit...I get excited about chalkboard stuff. Because if you think of how long they have been around and my kids still know what it is. They have a chalkboard easel and play with it all the time. Chalkboard to me is something that is timeless. When you think of all the things you grew up with that your kids WON'T remember chalkboards and chalk usually don't top the list. My kids adore their chalk board. And as a kid at heart I love to doodle with chalk. Chalkboard China has made Chalk extra fun and funky!

They have wine glasses, plates, candles, vases and martini glasses! Just think of the possibilities! Its so awesome! You can use them for several occasions! How cute would it be to toast to an anniversary with these and write a lovey message for your hubby on the bottom? Or serve an entree' with a message for a dinner party? The possibilities are endless!

I personally don't drink wine or anything so I chose a set of 3 vases in some awesome colors! These vases are so cute! I love them! I think I have to say my favorite thing about these is how quickly you can transform them. I mean one day they can celebrate Mother's day...then next they can wish someone in your home Happy Birthday. You can leave your kids a fun little note in their room or somewhere. I just love it! I put my vases in my kids' bathroom because the colors go with the surfer theme. I didn't have any flowers to put in but plan on getting something to really set the beachey/surfer mood! I had fun decorating these tho! My husband even got in on some of the artwork. And I love that these wipe clean so easily. I think I drew like 5 things and wiped off before I grabbed a wet cloth to really wipe it down good. I was expecting that it wouldn't wipe off too well. I was really impressed with that.

Being on a low-carb diet can be so boring at times, but the weight loss is so desirable that it makes the blah diet more tolerable. However, I recently discovered a great way to add protein to your diet WHILE enjoying it! Some days when I need a little bit of sweet to break up the monotony of meat and cheese, I will grab half of a Supreme Protein bar. Wow, the first time I tried this, I knew I was in love!! The taste is phenomenal. You almost have no clue that this is a protein bar (maybe a teeny hint of an aftertaste afterwards) and it is sooo good! One 50 gram bar packs in 15 grams of protein, and only 18 carbs. Calories are 200, which is not bad if you have looked into other protein bars. I know I have, and I have tasted many of them..and Supreme Protein has to be the best yet! These bars are available practically everywhere: CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, GNC and thousands of other retail locations.

I received three flavors to try:
-Peanut Butter and Jelly which really does not taste much like PB&J but it is pretty yummy in and of itself. It does have an obvious jelly flavor, I just think it is lacking slightly in the peanut butter department.
-Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist- This is my absolute FAVORITE, which I would think would be my least favorite. Usually I hate a sweet/salty combo but in this case it is soooo delicious and packs a little crunch that I love!
-Caramel Nut Chocolate- This is a fabulous little combo that helps on those days that you are craving a bit of chocolate in your life. Fabulous.

A three- year old little boy in England left his pre-school on the first day, scaled a three foot tall wall and crossed a busy street and made a ten minute walk home. Can you imagine the Moms surprise when she opened the door and found her little boy standing there?? Read the rest of the article here. The worse part being that the school did not even realize this little boy was missing!!

Oh man, I swear that school would be dealing with some major Mother Bear type of reactions from me! I would have been sooooo livid, but at the same time so thankful that my child made it safe and at home. Soooo many things could have went wrong!!

A lifesaver for the Lunch Box!

I pack my son's lunch 3 days a week for preschool and I normally run through ziplock bags like crazy! It gets expensive and annoying when I realize that I'm out and in need of one! I was so excited when I recieved the Kinderville Little Bites Storage Jars. These little things are awesome.

Not only are they adorable and reusable but they are the PERFECT size for my son's grapes or strawberries! I am absolutely in love with these little jars. I love how the lid suctions on and its easily removed and easily put back on! It makes packing his lunch box so easy and quick! I use these every time I pack his lunch! Definitely something I think every mom who packs a lunch should have! Another great thing about these little jars is that they are dishwasher safe! I have been using these for several weeks and they have held up in the dishwasher on the top rack very well! And best of all, they are BPA, phthalates, and lead-free!

Not only did I get to try out those but Kinderville also sent me the Ice Pop Molds These things are so neat!!! They remind me of the ice pops that my elementary school sold. They are similar in shape. Brings me back to my childhood! They are the perfect size for my little boys' hands! These are both dishwasher and freezer safe! How great is that! My favorite thing about these molds is that I can make my kids a healthy alternative to storebought pops! And so many possibilities of flavors!

Another great product I got to test out from Kinderville was the Easy Sqeezy Lotion Applicator. Now this is pretty neat! I used it with my kids' sunscreen while we were at the beach. Normally I have a ton of extra lotion all over my hands and have a hard time rubbing it in on my wiggly kids. But this is great because the applicator pad helps smooth the lotion in and so no more messy hands!! And no more wasting sunscreen, which saves me some money! My kids even loved having it put on. Normally I'm dealing with squirmy impatient kids while covering them in SPF. But The size and colors really caught their interest! This is a very cool product! The applicator pads are replaceable. My two favorite ways to accessorize are earrings and hair accessories. I think this makes a statement without going over the top. I just discovered a fantastic store, called Vintage Rose Wraps. I personally think they would look best with long hair, but even gals with short hair like me can rock these wraps. I love that they are slightly boho, but with a modern twist. Having my little man dress in styles that not everyone has is important to me. I see my little guy as a reflection of myself and I want him looking good and being stylish. I seriously think that my little man’s favorite holiday is Halloween. He loves the dressing up..the candy…the treats..and even Halloween decorations. Needless to say, he could not until it was time to pick out a Halloween costume this year. He decided he really wanted the child Policeman Costume. When it arrived I was definitely impressed with the quality. This costume is not one of those lightweight cheapies you find elsewhere. I was also excited because this costume from Anytime Costumes comes with a belt and gun holster, hat, pants, and decorated jacket! It makes the costume seem that much more authentic! I will say it runs true to size. I ordered a size up because in the past I have found costumes run very small. Unfortunately, not the case with this costume, and sadly it is really big on little man. However, will some roles on the legs and a tightening of the belt, we can make it work..and we have one happy little boy. So, please order your child’s correct size if you purchase this costume from Anytime Costumes.
